Dit belemmert het openen van de stemspleet tijdens het ademen, waardoor de luchttoevoer beperkt raakt. Vooral bij oudere honden van grotere rassen komt deze aandoening voor, maar ook Bull Terriers en Miniatuur Bull Terriers kunnen getroffen worden.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\"><strong>Wat is de larynx?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\">De larynx is een kraakbenige structuur tussen de keelholte en de luchtpijp, bedekt met spierweefsel. Hij bevat de stembanden en wordt beschermd door de epiglottis, een klep die voorkomt dat voedsel of water in de luchtpijp terechtkomt. Tijdens het ademen opent de larynx zich, maar bij larynxparalyse lukt dit niet goed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\">Symptomen van larynxparalyse: veranderd stemgeluid of blaf, hoesten of kokhalzen tijdens eten en drinken, benauwdheid, vooral bij inspanning of stress, overmatig hijgen en verminderde afkoeling, blauwverkleuring van de tong, flauwvallen of zelfs verstikking in ernstige gevallen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\"><strong>Erfelijkheid en DNA-test<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\">Dankzij een DNA-test is het mogelijk om te achterhalen of een hond drager is van het LP-gen. LP wordt veroorzaakt door een autosomaal recessieve mutatie, er zijn drie uitslagen: vrij, drager of lijder. Om te voorkomen dat er pups worden geboren met deze aandoening kunnen ouderdieren voor de dekking hierop getest worden.
