International Weekend: The Largest Bull Terrier Event in the World
The Dutch Bull Terrier Club organizes the annual International Weekend, a two-day event that has become the largest Bull Terrier meet in the world. With participants from Europe, North and South America, Asia and Oceania, it is a unique opportunity to see Bull Terriers from diverse countries together.
Championship Club Match
On Saturday, more than 200 Bull Terriers will be entered for the Championship Club Match. The variation in type and pedigree makes it interesting for breeders, exhibitors and visitors. It also provides opportunities to learn about genetic material that is otherwise difficult to access.
Country competition
Sunday is dedicated to the Country competition, first held in 2006 on the occasion of the club's 70th anniversary. Teams from different countries participate with carefully selected Bull Terriers divided into four classes. Three independent judges judge the dogs individually; the team with the highest total score wins.
Since the first edition, won by the Netherlands, the event has grown into a global competition. In recent years, 18 countries participated, including the United States, Mexico, Chile, Costa Rica and Australia. The United Kingdom is the most successful participant with 12 victories. Poland, the U.S. and the Netherlands have also achieved several podium finishes. Of special note is Hungary, which won in 2011 with a team of exclusively white Bull Terriers.
More than a Contest
The International Weekend is not only a competition, but also a meeting place for fanciers, breeders and kennels. The exchange of knowledge, contacts and ideas makes it a central event within the world of the Bull Terrier.
